Kelly plays an ex-GI who remains in Paris to pursue life as an artist and is discovered by a wealthy patroness interested in more than his art. Meanwhile, he falls for an alluring (but engaged) perfume-shop clerk (Leslie Caron in her beguiling screen debut). Dazzling dance sequences are spun around songs by George and Ira Gershwin.
