RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan Comes to the Coolidge This September

UPDATE: With our Friday show sold out, we've added an encore show on Saturday, September 21 at 9pm! Get tickets here

The Wu-Tang Clan’s founder is coming to the Coolidge to perform an epic live score to the Shaw Brothers martial arts masterpiece The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. The event will take place on Friday, July 20 at 9pm, and will be followed by a post-screening Q&A with RZA.

The award-winning musician, film composer and director will be using a Wu-Tang catalog over two decades deep, as he drops beats from opening scene to closing credits, to amplify the action of Lau Kar Leung's martial arts classic.

Long before he was a rapper and producer, RZA was an obsessive fan of kung fu movies. He first saw The 36th Chamber of Shaolin at the age of 12, and the film became a major influence on him. Now he's come full circle to combine two loves of his life: the aggressive instrumentals of hip-hop and the wild kinetics of martial arts.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978) stars Gordon Liu as a young revolutionary who goes to the Shaolin Temple to learn kung fu. He soon begins rigorous martial arts training in the elaborate chambers the Shaolin monks have developed. Once he's finished, he sets out to use his newfound skill to ignite a revolution!

Tickets are $75, and go on sale to Coolidge members at 12pm on Monday, July 8 and to the general public on Tuesday, July 9.
