Filmmakers in attendance!

Seven Latin American short films share a pulse: the body as a site of desire and transformation.

Whether fighting supernatural forces, the tender arithmetic of intimacy, or the quiet act of claiming a day for oneself, these films trace the many ways queer lives carve out space: in ballrooms, in beach towns, in the loom, in the night.

Latinx — The Body Knows Shorts Program:

Luz Diabla

dirs. Gervasio Canda, Paula Boffo, Patricio Plaza/11min/Argentina

Martín, a young urban raver, becomes entangled in a strange accident on the road while heading to a party in the middle of the Argentine Pampas. Finding refuge in a mysterious countryside tavern and taken in by two strangers, Martín's paranoia begins to take hold of him. As the hours pass, his perception starts to distort, unleashing unsettling visions that will lead him to confront the supernatural forces lurking in the night.

Tião Personal Dancer

dir. Aristótelis Tothi/24min/Brazil

TGIF! There is forro all over the city. Tiao, a professional dancer, works in ballrooms around the city. While Reginaldo and Cida hit the dance floor waiting for the night to bring a little something extra.

MDB

dir. Mila Aquilia/19min/Argentina

Summer of 2005 in Mar del Plata. The ‘Bikini Open’ and the ‘Ladies Night’ heat up the season. Pilar (14) and her family spend their afternoons at an upscale health resort in the city. There, she meets Camila (14). They fall in love amid photologs, ringtones, love letters, and plenty of ‘punchy, punchy’ noise. The spa starts to spread rumors that they are girlfriends. The teenage girls experience their first love secretly from a society that doesn’t accept them.

Handwoven

dirs. Dasha Levin, Mason Cazalet, Mihika Das, Matthew Wisdom/9min/Mexica, Ireland

A lyrical portrait of Nikyle Begay, a non-binary shepherd and weaver; working to preserve their way of life through the traditional art of weaving.

It’s the Minimum Reduction of the Abyss

dir. Delfina Romero Feldman/15min/Argentina

What is love, and what distances do we inhabit with those we love? Polo and Mora share a morning calculating the distance between them. Both attempt to find those intimate gestures that allow them to reduce the distance.

Trick

dir. Rodrigo Ribeyro/Brazil/15min

Elisa, a worker from São Paulo, decides to skip work to go to the beach.

Kabuki

dir. Tiago Minamisawa/Brazil/15min

Kabuki lives in a male body that she does not recognize. Without identity she awakens the Soul. In the impermanence of the material body, she Transcends.
