Coolidge Corner Theatre expansion to open on March 27

The day we've all been waiting for has arrived! The doors to the expanded Coolidge will open to the public on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

From left to right: Moviehouse 5, new lobby, Moviehouse 6, Education and Community Engagement Center

While our historic marquee and theaters remain unchanged, we'll be unveiling 14,000 sq. ft. of new space, including:

  • Two new theaters (Moviehouse 5 with 145 seats and Moviehouse 6 with 49 seats)
  • An expanded lobby, featuring indoor ticketing and combined concessions and bar
  • An Education and Community Engagement Center for classes, private events, and more

The project completes the transformation of the beloved local institution into a leading national center for film and culture.

Beyond creating more spaces for screenings, the expansion will increase opportunities for educational and cultural programming, a core part of the organization's mission. The Coolidge recently hired its first-ever director of education, who will oversee the expansion of existing adult film education programs and the launch of a new youth education initiative.

New Merch

Logo t-shirt

Since 1933, the Coolidge has been been showing the best classic, foreign, independent, and midnight cult films. As we enter a new era, we wanted to pay homage to our past with a commemorative Comfort Colors t-shirt that features our old logos since we first opened as a movie theater! These shirts (and other new merch, such as enamel pins) will be available for purchase at our concessions stand in the new lobby space.
