Coolidge Corner Theatre Announces Temporary Closure, Effective as of Friday, March 13

In response to the recent community spread of COVID-19 in Brookline and the greater Boston area, and out of deep care and concern for our wonderful Coolidge community, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all films, special events, and education programs effective as of 6pm today (Friday, March 13), through at least Friday, April 3.

This is a precautionary and voluntary measure as we currently have no known cases of novel coronavirus COVID-19 associated with the Coolidge Corner Theatre. During this time, the theatre will be closed to the public, and our administrative staff will continue to work remotely.

Given the recommendations from the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control about social distancing, we believe this is the most responsible and prudent action to protect the well-being of our community and staff.

During this temporary closure, Coolidge Corner Theatre employees, including hourly employees whose schedules will be affected, will continue to receive full pay. The Coolidge will still be accepting memberships and financial contributions, though please be aware that that delivery of membership cards may be delayed due to the circumstances. Public support is especially appreciated during this time and will help the Coolidge to reopen with minimal disruption as soon as it is acceptable to do so.

All ticketholders will have the opportunity to convert the value of their ticket purchase into a tax-deductible charitable donation to the nonprofit Coolidge Corner Theatre. Please contact us at [email protected] by end-of-day on Monday, March 16 if you’d like to support the Coolidge in this way.

For those who would prefer refunds of purchased tickets, there is no need to email. Beginning Tuesday, our customer support team will refund all ticket purchases via credit card for screenings through April 3. Any ticket purchases by cash at the box office will require refunding through the box office after we re-open.

We appreciate your support in this unprecedented time and will share our plans when we re-evaluate at the end of the month.

If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]. For updates, please visit our website and social media channels (@thecoolidge on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).

Best wishes,

Katherine Tallman, Executive Director & CEO

Michael Maynard, Board Chairperson
