Seminar: Wanda

Event Date
Wednesday, March 13th
Body

What makes this film about a profoundly passive, disempowered woman so compelling that Isabelle Huppert took it upon herself to release the DVD version of Wanda in France in 2004?

That French author Marguerite Duras said of it, “I think there is a miracle in Wanda.”? That it's ranked 48th in the latest 2022 Sight and Sound The Greatest Films of All Time Critics' Poll? In this seminar, Coolidge Instructor Kaj Wilson will raise and explore this question in the context of filmmaker Barbara Loden's own life and as a response to the American New Wave as exemplified by Bonnie and Clyde.
