Queer & Confused

dir. Zoe Black/9min/UK

It’s a cold London night in 1980 when the romantic Charlie bursts into the flat they share with their gutsy best friend, Dolly. Charlie has just auditioned for a play directed by their current crush, Ella – which seems to Dolly like a disaster waiting to happen. But Dolly’s doubts fade when she discovers that Ella can get them all into the legendary Crash Club. As they prepare for their big night out, Dolly tries to help Charlie dress for the occasion, not realising that she's hitting a nerve. Charlie’s debatable fashion choices are a reflection of their growing gender confusion - something they can’t quite express. On the way to the club, Charlie manages to open up, sharing that they’re undergoing some kind of metamorphosis. Reconnected, the two friends dive into a chaotic night at Crash Club. As dawn breaks, Charlie and Dolly run down the street into whatever comes next - together.
