Over the course of her career, legendary costume designer and Coolidge Award honoree Ruth E. Carter has worked on several period pieces, including Malcolm X, Amistad, Rosewood, What’s Love Got to Do With It?, and Ava DuVernay’s Selma.

Ava DuVernay's film dramatizes a turning point in civil rights history, chronicling Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Oscar nominated for Best Picture.
