Have you ever felt like a minor character in your own life? What if that's really the case...

Paula hopes for a glamorous life in the front row, with its own storyline, thrilling scenes, and soundtrack—unlike her mother, who works as a supporting character stuck in the background, with limited dialogues and missing emotions. Paula attends the school for main characters on a quest to prove she has what it takes to be a rousing lead. She is at the top of her class in cliff-hanging, and can do slow motion and panicked screaming in her sleep—but so far she fails at creating great emotions.

In search of true feelings, Paula soon finds herself in the abyss of the cinematic world, into the morass of hated outtakes, on the fringes of society. But instead of cruel rebels, she meets lovable characters, people with film mistakes who live in constant fear of being cut out of the script. Digging deeper, her search brings her across some inconsistencies about the death of her father, who was a shiny main character. Paula begins to doubt—herself, her place in the story, and those who tell the stories.
