In the Heat of the Night
Body
In Norman Jewison’s Oscar-winning milestone, a visiting big-city detective (Sidney Poitier) teams up with a local police chief (Oscar winner Rod Steiger) after the murder of an industrialist.
Giving a masterfully layered performance, Poitier plays a man who knows he’s better at his job than Steiger’s bigoted good old boy, but must patiently navigate increasingly treacherous waters amidst routine racism and humiliation. With the Oscar-nominated Lee Grant as the victim’s shocked widow, and Warren Oates as a deputy.
