Iconic performances and evocative musical numbers secure Cabaret's status as a stylish, socially conscious classic.

Set in 1931 Berlin against the threatening backdrop of the Nazi rise to power, this breathtakingly original film had inventive choreographer Bob Fosse as director, who brought together an ingenious, cutting-edge crew of talent. Liza Minnelli shines in her first dramatic singing role as "divinely decadent" but vulnerable Sally Bowles, while Michael York is deeply humane as the fictionalized persona of gay author Christopher Isherwood, whose stories inspired the film. Holding the entire edifice together is a phenomenal Joel Grey as the "Kit Kat Club's" leering, omniscient Emcee, in a definitive performance that remains unsurpassed today.

In a nod to both the Coolidge's long track record of showcasing innovative, boundary-pushing works of film art as well as the start of construction on our expanded space, the theme of this year’s Big Screen Classics series will be Groundbreaking Films! We look forward to sharing more information about our expansion project throughout the year and hope you will join us for one or more of this year's Big Screen Classics the way they were meant to be seen -- on the big screen!
