Medfield State Hospital Screening Policies & Procedures

Upon arrival, you will park in the field near the entrance of Medfield State Hospital where the screen will be set up and view the film safely from inside of your vehicle. Cars will be parked with adequate social distance in between. Larger vehicles like trucks, vans, or SUVs will be parked toward the back to avoid obstructed views.

Audience members must remain in their vehicles at all times, except when purchasing concessions or using the restroom facilities. Masks must be worn at all times while you are outside of your vehicle.

We do encourage you to arrive early if you would like to walk the grounds of Medfield State Hospital before the film begins at sundown. These events are rain or shine, and tickets are non-refundable.

We’ll be projecting the film onto a 40 foot inflatable screen using state of the art equipment provided by Boston Light and Sound.

Coolidge Drive-In FAQs

How do I buy a ticket?

Tickets are available for purchase at coolidge.org.

Do I need to get a ticket for everyone in my vehicle?

No. Please note that tickets are $60 per car, not per person.

Can I purchase a ticket onsite?

No, tickets are only available online through the Coolidge Corner Theatre website.

Can I cancel my reservation?

There are no refunds or exchanges. If you can’t use your drive-in ticket, we recommend that you give it to a friend to use.

What if it rains?

These screenings will proceed rain or shine. In the case of extreme weather, your ticket can be used for a rescheduled rain date. If no rain date is possible, your ticket will be refunded.

When should I arrive onsite?

The lot opens approximately two hours prior to the start of the screening. You may arrive early to secure a parking spot and to walk the grounds of Medfield State Hospital, but you may also arrive closer to the start of the screening. To minimize disruption, we ask that all ticketholders try to their best to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to showtime.

How will I be checked in?

Your tickets will be scanned as you pull into the parking lot. Please make sure your ticket is either on your phone or have it printed. Coolidge staff will direct each vehicle to a specific parking spot.

How long does it take to park?

It varies — but not too long! (And thanks in advance for your patience.)

Can any size vehicle get a parking spot?

Vehicles of all sizes are welcome but larger vehicles like trucks, vans, or SUVs will be parked toward the back to avoid obstructed views.

Can I bring chairs to sit outside my car?

No. Once parked, you must stay in your vehicle at all times — unless purchasing from our onsite food vendors or visiting the restroom, in which case masks must be worn and social distancing rules apply.

Sitting or standing outside in the lot itself, or sitting on your vehicle’s roof or hood is not permitted.

Do I need to bring a mask?

Yes. Please wear a mask when interacting with Coolidge staff members. Also, masks must be worn at all times while you are outside of your vehicle.

Will there be any food or concessions available for purchase?

Popcorn and seltzer will be available at a Coolidge Corner Theatre concession stand via credit or debit card purchase only. Most of our drive-in screenings feature food vendors and/or ice cream; specific details will be emailed to all ticket-holders prior to the event.

What about restrooms?

Four portable restrooms, including one ADA compliant unit, will be available for public use. Restrooms will be fully cleaned daily with supplies refreshed and restocked. Surfaces of restrooms will be sprayed with peroxide based sanitizer regularly throughout each screening.
Hand sanitizer will be available in each restroom and additional stations with hand sanitizer will be available on the property.

Can I keep my car engine on during the movie?

Engines, headlights and running lights should be turned off during the movie. (And it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with how to do so for your particular vehicle before the movie starts — every make/model seems to have slightly different “how-to’s.”)

Because the radios of some newer vehicles will automatically turn off after particular intervals, we understand you may need to turn your car on briefly to restart your radio.

What if my battery dies?

No worries! We’ve got jumper cables.

How will I listen to the movie?

All vehicles attending will need a functioning FM radio. You’ll receive the FM station frequency via email with your ticket confirmation — and we’ll remind you when you arrive for your screening. Remember that you cannot tune to the signal with a smartphone.

Also, as noted above, some newer vehicles will automatically turn off after particular intervals. We understand you may need to turn your car on briefly to restart your radio.

What safety precautions is the Coolidge taking?

Our safety protocols include:

  • We will park everyone with adequate distancing between cars.
  • Audiences must remain in their vehicles at all times, except when purchasing concessions, using the restroom facilities, or walking the grounds before the film.
  • Audience members must wear masks at all times when outside of vehicles.
  • Concession stand and restroom lines will have markers to ensure social distancing.
  • Remote payment will be used when possible.
  • Food Trucks/Vendors will be permitted by Medfield Board of Health and will follow recommended safety guidelines.
  • Restrooms will be fully cleaned daily with supplies refreshed and restocked. Surfaces of restrooms will be sprayed with peroxide based sanitizer regularly throughout each screening.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in each restroom and additional stations with hand sanitizer will be available on the property.

How do I exit the screening?

At the end of the film, we will exit one row at a time. Instructions will be given over the radio frequency you’ll be using to listen to the film.
