In Laura Laabs’ debut feature, the history of Germany over the past nearly 100 years is the central theme – from the Nazi Regime to the GDR and the Fall of the Wall- all wrapped up in one glorious mess of a film.

A well-preserved skeleton is unearthed from the moor in rural East Germany, sparking curiosity among Tine and the villagers. They speculate: Who could it be? A soldier who deserted in 1944 from the Wehrmacht? A desperate farmer from one of the GDR’s agricultural cooperatives shortly before the capitalist takeover? Or perhaps the shadowy third man from a notorious secret service mission against the left-wing terrorist Red Army Faction?

As a historical mystery unfolds, a century of Germany‘s past resurfaces in the present. Tine wonders, “What does this have to do with me?“ – until she experiences firsthand how history intrudes on her own life.
