What private eye Harry Moseby doesn't know about the girl he's looking for just might get him killed.

Harry Moseby (Gene Hackman) is a run-of-the-mill, bottom-of-the-barrel private eye who spends his working hours staking out divorce disputants, chasing runaways, and tracing missing persons. That is, until he's called in to find a beautiful teenaged runaway, Delly Grastner (Melanie Griffith). The mystery deepens as Moseby's pursuit of Delly leads him into a labyrinth of crime.
