The greatest Michael Bay movie that Michael Bay had nothing to do with, Simon West’s (The Mechanic, The Expendables 2) directorial debut is proof that there is still a place for the amped up, overblown Hollywood blockbuster that hearkens back to Top Gun and Days of Thunder.

With a cast absolutely overflowing with character-acting bravado, Con Air is an unstoppable thrill-ride of self-aware meta-irony, perfect one-liners, topless muscle men, and slo-mo fireballs that puts Nicolas Cage in charge of saving the day as John Malkovich, John Cusack, Ving Rhames, Steve Buscemi, Danny Trejo, and Dave Chappelle all attempt to out-act each other.
