Dancer in the Dark & Dogville with Siobhan Fallon Hogan
Featuring a conversation with actor Siobhan Fallon Hogan (Men in Black, Seinfeld, Saturday Night Live).
Between the screenings, Fallon Hogan will discuss her work with director Lars von Trier in the films Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, and The House That Jack Built, moderated by Coolidge program director Mark Anastasio.
About Dancer in the Dark
A heartbreaking performance from avant-pop icon Björk lights up this singular, emotionally wrenching musical from Lars von Trier, who made use of over a hundred handheld digital video cameras to bring a raw immediacy to the story of Selma, a Czech immigrant living in America and working desperately to save her son from the same disease that is slowly taking her sight. To distract from the crushing reality of her work in a tough rural factory, the loving mother escapes into her imagination and envisions herself in classic Hollywood musicals, a place where illness and poverty are replaced by ecstatic song-and-dance numbers.
About Dogville
Grace arrives in the isolated town of Dogville, on the run from gangsters. The townspeople agree to hide her. However, when outsiders start looking for the fugitive, the locals make demands of Grace in exchange for the risk of harboring her. But Grace has a secret, and it is a dangerous one. Dogville may regret it ever decided to bare its teeth.
