Virtual Screenings FAQ

Update: as of Friday, June 18, the Virtual Screening Room is now closed. Thank you for your support!

While the Coolidge is closed we will be offering curated virtual screenings, lectures, and discussions to entertain, educate, and engage you while we're apart! We're moving quickly to put this new service in place, so please be patient if we run into some initial technical issues.

Below, we will do our best to answer most of your questions about all the different programming we'll be offering. If you have additional questions, please submit a support request here.

New Releases

Q: How do I watch the films?

A: Every new release we offer will be available through the individual distributor's websites and streaming services. You'll be taken to their websites to purchase and watch the film, but a portion of your ticket will help support the Coolidge. You'll find details about each film and distributor and/or platform below.

virtualcoolidge.org

virtual.coolidge.org is a completely different system from our regular website. Your coolidge.org login information will not work at virtualcoolidge.org. The first time you use this streaming platform you'll need to set up an account, even if you have an account at coolidge.org already. Sometimes your browser may autofill your coolidge.org username and password into virtual.coolidge.org, this will not work and you will be unable to log in.

To create a new account at virtualcoolidge.org requires only your name, email address, and a password. To stream movies in the future, you can simply log in.

Once your account has been created you’ll be given an opportunity to make a donation to the theatre. This is purely optional but, if you do decide to donate, thank you. You’ll then be taken to a payment screen, where you can enter your credit card information.

Once your payment has been processed you should receive a confirmation email, and the film will become available to you for 48 hours. If the film has yet to appear at virtualcoolidge.org, you can try refreshing your browser.

Virtualcoolidge.org's confirmation emails do not contain a link to watch the film. To view the films you've rented through this platform go to virtualcoolidge.org, sign in, click 'My Account' and select 'My Screenings', where you'll be able to see a list of all your purchased films.

You should be able to stream the film on your computer, tablet, or mobile device, and, if you have a television that is able to mirror your computer or phone, possibly on your television as well.

For help with the streaming site, email here.

Q: How does renting these films help support the Coolidge?

A: Profits from these films are split between us and the distributors, so every rental helps! For more ways to support us, click here.

Q: I just purchased the film, but I don't see how to watch it?

A: First, check your email, and make sure your purchase went through.

Virtualcoolidge.org's confirmation emails do not contain a link to watch the film. To view the films you've rented through this platform go to virtualcoolidge.org, sign in, click 'My Account' and select 'My Screenings', where you'll be able to see a list of all your purchased films.

For many other platforms, the email you were sent should have a link for you to watch the film. If you are still having issues, please submit a support request here.

Q: How do I watch the film on my TV using Airplay or Chromecast?

A: A guide to using Google Chromecast can be found here, and a guide for AppleTV's Airplay is here.

Q: I'm a Coolidge member; is there a member price?

A: Unfortunately, due to our agreements with distributors, we aren't able to offer member pricing for these films. But don't worry—we'll be extending your member benefits for the length of the closure when we re-open. These rentals will help ensure that we are able do that—and if you'd consider an additional donation to the Coolidge, you can do so here. Thank you for your support!

Q: Can I use Coolidge gift cards for Virtual Screening Room films?

A: Unfortunately, that's not an option at the moment. You'll be able to use them when we reopen—thank you for your support!

Virtual Education Seminars

Q: What do I get when I register for a virtual education seminar?

A: When you register for a virtual education seminar, the program will be presented in three parts. At least one week before the discussion, you'll receive an email with a link to watch a pre-taped lecture, to view before the film at your convenience. Then, you can go off and watch the film on your own (please note, the Coolidge will not be providing the film, though we will let you know where it's available to rent and/or stream), before the discussion which will be at a set time presented on Zoom. You'll have the opportunity to submit questions to the instructor before the discussion, and to ask them during through a moderator.

Q: How do I register for the seminar?

A: We will be processing these transactions through Zoom and PayPal. If you have a PayPal account already, you can log in using that. If you don't have an account, you do not need to create one, you can check out as a guest.

To start, you'll fill out your basic information, then click "pay and register," and then click "continue to PayPal." You'll then either log into your PayPal account, or you'll continue as a guest and enter your credit card information. After completing payment on PayPal, you will be redirected to Zoom. While the payment is processing, the window will stay Waiting for a Response from PayPal. You can close this window or leave it open until the payment is complete. You will receive an email after the payment is complete and you are registered for the seminar.

Q: How do I watch the film?

A: Access to the film is not included as part of your registration fee, but we will direct you to where you can rent and/or stream it on your own. If you happen to already own a copy of the film, feel free to just watch that!

Q: When do I watch the film?

A: Once you've been sent the pre-recorded introduction, you can watch the film whenever it's convenient for you, before the set discussion time.
