Michael Mann redefined the film noir in his theatrical feature film debut Thief (1981).

Michael Mann’s former assistant, BU professor Justin Liberman, will introduce the film and share insights about the director and his creative process.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Justin Liberman is a Boston based filmmaker, on the directing roster at ELEMENT Productions. His narrative films (Tobacco BurnPretty Dead Flowers) have screened and won awards and Jury prizes at Tribeca Film Festival, Montreal World Fest, Santa Barbara Film Festival, and IFF Boston. As an educator, Justin was the chair of the cinema department at the University of Hartford and currently teaches directing at Boston University. From 2003 to 2006 he worked at Michael Mann’s production company, Forward Pass Inc., and on the productions of Collateral and Miami Vice.
