In heroes we trust.

Brothers Anthony & Joe Russo would go on to direct some of the most bombastic films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (including Avengers: Endgame), but for their first superhero film they helped to scale things back (at least, until the big finale). Influenced by 70s conspiracy thrillers such as Three Days of the Condor and The Parallax View, the Russos took on Captain America's second solo film and sent him on the run from assassins and an ever-widening conspiracy in Washington D.C. With more memorable action than most other MCU entries, and Three Days of the Condor's Robert Redford stepping in as the villain, The Winter Soldier is one of the more refreshing films in the Marvel canon.
