Ax Wound Film Festival - The Final Girl Predicament: Dispelling Distortions and Carving a Path Forward

2hrs
Body

In this 2 hour event we will begin with an eye-opening presentation on the “Final Girl” film theory-turned-trope and the misunderstood narrative that bore a form of faux feminism that refuses to die.

How did this academic film theory about slasher films and young men in the 1980’s get so mixed up with feminism in the first place? This special event will include the premiere of Ausencia, an essay film by May Santiago and a live panel discussion on the allegorical power of horror films: providing new ways of thinking about horror and exploring how we can approach the genre in a new socially conscious way.
