Through a charmed confluence of hard work, determination, networking, and good karma, the third Coolidge Award events honoring the work of super-luminary and all-around great human being, Meryl Streep, brought joy to everyone who participated.

The 3rd Coolidge Award

Streep arrived in Boston by train on an unexpectedly snowy day in April. The two-day celebration that followed included:

  • A panel on the creative processes behind the film Adaptation. Participants included Streep, writer-director Charlie Kauffman, writer Susan Orlean, and actor Chris Cooper.

  • A special sneak preview of A Prairie Home Companion, introduced by director Robert Altman.

  • The Coolidge Award ceremony, which featured live tributes from actors Kevin Kline, John C. Reilly and Chris Cooper; musician Patty Larkin; writer Susan OrleanNew York Times critic Janet Maslin; and directors Robert Altman and Charlie Kauffman.

  • Repertory screenings included The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie's Choice, Silkwood, Out of Africa, The Hours, The French Lieutenant's Woman, Manhattan, and Defending Your Life.
